Stevie's Obituary


Steven Mitzel, 31, Bismarck, went to heaven on November 7, 2006, after a two and a half year battle with brain cancer. He passed away at home with his wife by his side. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, November 13th at 1pm at River of Life Assembly of God, Devils Lake with Rev. BrandonWegner officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Bismarck at Noon on Tuesday.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm on Sunday at Bismarck Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to service at the church.

Steven was born June 16, 1975, in Devils Lake son of Steven and Jean (Jetty) Mitzel. He spent his childhood years in the Sheyenne and Oberon country where he attended school and spent countless hours on Grandma Faith’s farm. As a teenager he moved to Leeds where he graduated high school in 1994.
Steven attended UND Lake Region and made his home in Devils Lake. In 1997 he married Tari Wolf with whom he had 1 son, Marcel. He dedicated himself to helping those less fortunate. He worked 2 full time jobs as support staff for the disabled at Lake Region Corporation and 4th Corporation for 6 years. He also volunteered his time with delivering meals-on-wheels in Devils Lake. He was a member of River of Life Assembly of God, and loved working with the youth, having fun, and being a strong positive role model for them to look up to. For over a year He hosted the men’s bible study group at his home in Devils Lake for men between the ages of 18-30. On April 12, 2004 Steven married Jasmine Dunn, and moved to Bismarck. They had 1 son, Steven Drew. He aspired to have a career working with children, and hoped to one day become a foster parent and adopt a child in need.

He was an avid outdoorsman; his favorite activity was fishing at the great Devils Lake. He loved to spend every minute he could camping at the Sheyenne River Bottoms. He was a huge Chicago Bears fan and was thrilled in 2004 when he was able to meet the famous Mike Ditka in Chicago. His greatest role in life was being a loving husband and father to his 3 young children.
He is survived by his wife, Jasmine, Bismarck; 2 sons, Marcel, Grand Forks and Drew, Bismarck; one stepson Hunter, Bismarck; his father, Steven M. Mitzel, Devils Lake; his grandmother, Faith Mitzel, Oberon; his sisters, Valerie (Kent) Larson, Crary and Bonnie (Clarence) Nelsen, Leeds; his brothers, Tony Eback, Bismarck, Dante (Sherry) Eback, Dublin, California; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his Mother, Jean (Jetty) Mudget and his paternal grandfather and maternal grandparents. For anyone wishing to honor Steve with a memorial, the family prefers them sent to River of Life-Youth Group, Devils Lake.
